Privacy Policy

CapDrop is designed to be a local-first screenshot tool. We collect the minimum needed to deliver and protect your license, and we never see your captures.
What we collect
- Email address — when you purchase, request support, or sign up for product news.
- Machine fingerprint — a hashed identifier derived from your Windows Machine GUID. Used only to enforce the 2-device license limit and detect license sharing.
- License activation events — installation ID, app version, activation/deactivation timestamps. Sent to Polar (our license-key provider) during validation.
- Trial state — locally stored on your PC (no server transmission for the trial itself).
What we do NOT collect
- Your screenshots, captures, exports, clipboard content — these are processed and stored only on your PC. They never leave your machine.
- Browsing history, application activity, keystrokes, or any other behavioral data.
- Payment card details — handled entirely by Polar / Stripe; we never see card numbers.
How we use your data
- Deliver your license key to your email after purchase.
- Validate your license when you activate or use the app.
- Respond to support requests.
- Comply with legal and tax obligations (Polar issues your invoice).
Third parties we share with
- Polar Software Inc. (Merchant of Record) — payment processing, license-key issuance, customer portal. polar.sh
- Cloudflare — hosting, DNS, email routing.
- That is the complete list. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
Data retention
- Order records (email + purchase info): 5 years, to comply with tax and accounting law.
- Machine fingerprints: until you deactivate the license or request deletion.
- Support emails: 2 years, then deleted.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, PIPA)
You have the right to: access your personal data, request correction, request deletion (subject to legal retention requirements), object to processing, request data portability, and withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, email support@capdrop.app from the address associated with your purchase. We respond within 30 days.
Children
CapDrop is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
Material changes are announced at capdrop.app and emailed to license holders at least 30 days before taking effect.
